What is Chrysalis? (See also "What is Emmaus?")
Chrysalis is similar to the Walk to Emmaus but is for teenagers (ages 15-18).
Each Chrysalis weekend is called a "Chrysalis Flight." Some communities also offer weekends for college-age participants (ages 19-24), which are called "Chrysalis Journeys."
The Atlanta South Chrysalis Fellowship (ASCF) sponsors two Chrysalis Flights per year at Camp Pine Eden in Pine Mountain, GA. One Flight is for boys, and the other Flight is for girls.
Individuals who attend a Chrysalis Flight are called "caterpillars."
Chrysalis Flights are conducted in a cloistered environment. Male and female caterpillars attend separate Flights. Safe Sanctuary policies are in effect.
An ordained spiritual director is present on each Chrysalis Flight.
There is a standard agenda for all Chrysalis Flights consisting of a series of talks given by both lay members and clergy.
There are no secrets on Chrysalis Flights. The agenda is usually shared only with the team members. This is by design so that caterpillars can "participate" in the current event rather than "anticipating" any upcoming events.
Upon completing their Flights, caterpillars become members of the ASWTE/ASCF community and are eligible to sponsor others for upcoming Emmaus and Chrysalis weekends and work as team members on future weekends.
There are more than 1000 active participants in the ASWTE/ASCF community.
ASCF regularly holds gatherings which are called "Hoots." Hoots provide opportunities for fellowship, worship, prayer, and planning for upcoming Chrysalis Flights.
Members of the community may bring guests to Hoots to introduce them to Chrysalis.
Chysalis encourages brothers and sisters in Christ to hold each other accountable, and to share each others joys and sorrows by participating routinely in small "Reunion Groups" (two or more people).
